eBay Scam

Brother! Today I got an html-formatted message seemingly from Services@eBay.com with the scary subject line of Your Final Warning From eBay. There is a hyperlinked url that seems to go to your eBay login screen. In actuality, it hides the true link: a scam site in Japan. I took some screenshots of the email and the website as a warning to the unwary.

This appears to be a two-level scam:

  1. to harvest eBay username and passwords
  2. to harvest credit card information

Another reason not to banish html-formatted email! I reported the scam to eBay and found a pretty handy tutorial on spotting email spoofs.
