How Everyday Things Are Made

Did you ever wonder how such everyday things as candy, cars, airplanes or bottles are made? Have you ever wanted to know about manufacturing processes, like forging, casting, or injection molding? Stanford University's Alliance for Innovative Manufacturing has developed an introductory website for kids and adults showing how various items are made in a series of virtual factory tours.

The website covers over 40 different products and manufacturing processes and includes almost 4 hours of manufacturing video in Flash format. It is targeted towards non-engineers and engineers alike. The site is a popular treatment of technology topics and is based on a popular lecture series by Dr. Mark Martin. (Stanford University)
