NISO Publishes 'Metadata Demystified'

The National Information Standards Organization (NISO) and the Sheridan Press have published "Metadata Demystified: A Guide for Publishers," offering book and journal publishers a strategic resource on how to streamline metadata operations in their organizations.

Available Online: http://www.niso.org/standards/resources/Metadata_Demystified.pdf

The book offers an overview of evolving metadata conventions in publishing and describes initiatives aimed at standardizing how metadata is structured and disseminated online. Specific publishing-oriented metadata practices such as ONIX, CrossRef and the Open Archives Initiative are covered, and tips on how to leverage metadata for broader exposure in digital media are included. The guide is available for free download at the URL below, or can be purchased in hard copy from NISO Press for $20 plus shipping and handling. (NISO Press Release 20 Aug 2003)
